TCC Announces Inaugural Tallahassee History Festival and Expo
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.– Tallahassee Community College has partnered with the Tallahassee Historical Society, Florida Civil Rights Museum, The National Association for the Preservation of African-American History and Culture, and Fort San Luis, NSDAR to create the inaugural Tallahassee History Festival. The event will take place Saturday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kleman Plaza in Downtown Tallahassee.
The festival is focused on showcasing and teaching attendees about the history of Florida. There will be live reenactments as well as activities and programs hosted by historians from around the state. Participating organizations include Wakulla County Historical Society, Panhandle Archaeological Society at Tallahassee (PAST), The Grove Museum, Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum, Museum of Florida History, and many more. The keynote speaker of the festival is Dr. A.J. Brickler, III. An avid pilot, he will share the inspirational story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first black military pilots in the United States, who protected American bombers from German aircraft during World War II.
The Tallahassee Historical Society was among the first organizations to officially partner with TCC to make the Tallahassee History Festival a reality. “The Tallahassee History Festival will debut two short years before Tallahassee’s bicentennial,” said Bob Holladay, president of the Tallahassee Historical Society. “We hope that every historical organization, museum, historical site in our community will join us to be a part of this inaugural festival. We think this is a very big deal for Tallahassee and look forward to watching the festival grow in the years to come.”
