WASHINGTON, DC , January 6, 2026 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In light of the advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and the rise in threats from misinformation and scams, the Health of the Americas Foundation® (HAF ) announced the launch of Real or Synthetic 2.0 . This digital health guide is an expanded and fully updated resource designed to help people recognize, question, and respond to the growing challenge of misinformation, disinformation, and synthetic media. The resource is available in English at wait2click.org and in Spanish at antesdelclic.org

“We are thrilled to support people in taking on the Wait2Click challenge,” said Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO of the HAF. “Version 2.0 reinforces our commitment to helping people strengthen their digital health by using the power of animation and storytelling to better discern what is real and what is synthetic in today’s information environment.”

The Real or Synthetic resource, developed in collaboration with The Carter Center, integrates the latest insights into artificial intelligence, algorithms, and neuroscience to explain how information influences online perception and behavior. Through interactive discussions, reflection exercises, and short videos accessible via QR codes, users explore how memory, attention, and emotion are used to shape what people believe and share.

This new version also includes updated examples, key definitions of misinformation, disinformation, and disinformation, as well as an expanded Digital Health Checklist that encourages setting limits with technology and verifying information before sharing it.

“Our collaboration with HAF represents our shared commitment to providing communities with the knowledge they need to navigate a complex digital world,” said Daniel Richardson of the Carter Center’s Digital Threats to Democracy Program. “With these tools, people can pause, reflect, and take an extra moment to protect themselves and their communities.”

To bring these lessons to life, Héctor Cantú and Carlos Castellanos, creators of the comic strip Baldo —America’s favorite family—developed engaging video segments and characters that illustrate common online situations. “We connect with a broad audience through humor and relatable stories,” said Cantú. “With Real or Synthetic 2.0, we’re bringing these lessons to everyday experiences.” Castellanos added, “We hope these animations help people slow down, think critically, and share responsibly.”

The resources, available in English at wait2click.org and in Spanish at antesdelclic.org, include QR codes that link to videos demonstrating how difficult it can be to distinguish between synthetic and real information, and why pausing for a moment before clicking makes all the difference. A facilitator’s guide, including materials for participants, is also available.
