A Samaritan’s Purse Mobile Emergency Hospital is inaugurated in Venezuela to Treat Earthquake Victims
Boone, NC, July 1, 2026 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Yesterday, the international Christian humanitarian aid organization Samaritan’s Purse welcomed its first patients to the Mobile Emergency Hospital in La Guaira, Venezuela. Two consecutive earthquakes struck the region last week, killing more than 1,700 people and leaving thousands of families displaced and in urgent need of medical care. Nearly 50,000 people remain missing as search and rescue efforts continue. Samaritan’s Purse disaster response specialists worked tirelessly to build the Mobile Emergency Hospital, which features two operating rooms, 56 patient beds, an intensive care unit, a pharmacy, and a laboratory.
“The destruction is immense: hundreds of buildings have collapsed, thousands are damaged, and tens of thousands of people are still missing. It breaks my heart to see so much suffering. We know the death toll will rise, and the need is enormous,” said Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “Our Mobile Emergency Hospital is open, and we are providing vital surgical care, treating injuries, and reminding families that God loves them. The people of Venezuela need our prayers.”
The North Carolina-based organization has more than 40 members of its disaster relief response team in Venezuela, with additional members traveling to the area daily. Samaritan’s Purse is also distributing essential supplies such as shelter materials, blankets, and hygiene kits, in addition to installing several community water filtration units to provide safe drinking water. The ministry has airlifted more than 98 tons of essential supplies to Venezuela and will continue to use its Boeing 767 cargo plane to deliver more aid to the Venezuelan nation.
