Laury was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico. In 1990, she moved to Tampa FL to attend the University of South Florida. She graduated in 1995 with a  BA in Business Administration and an MBA in 1997.   In 2004, she married Ryan S. Koontz, from North Carolina and a Flight Engineer for the Coast Guard at the time.  They have one son, Ryan “Tig”, who keeps them busy with school, hockey, & judo.  The rest of her family still resides on the island and the Koontz’s go visit a few times a year.

In 2004, right after Hurricane Ivan, they  moved to the Pensacola area, where Ryan’s new Air Force Reserve Unit was located at  and she started working for Smith Business Services, Inc, the firm that, eventually, she ended up purchasing in 2006.  She renamed the company Díaz Koontz Business Services, Inc. and has been providing accounting, tax & payroll services for the entire community since then.  Her clients are her friends too and she has developed strong relationships with all of them. Even though the business is open all year long, during the  busy tax season is when the bulk of  people come to see her and she always looks forward  to catching up with everybody before getting down to business.

During the time that she has been in the Pensacola Area, she has been a board member of a few charitable organizations as well as a contributor to different causes. She has been working with the Spanish community from day one.  On occasion, she also collaborates with the Conexión Bilingual newspaper by writing articles about taxes and business in general.  In her free time, Laury enjoys our beautiful emerald color beaches, boating, hockey games, running, traveling or just spending time with the family and friends.
