How to Turn a Seasonal Job into a Full-Time Job

With the holidays approaching, do you find yourself needing more income? If so, then a seasonal job may be the best option for you. During different periods of the year, many companies require supplementary seasonal employees to fulfill orders, meet deadlines, or address consumer demands. The duration of seasonal jobs can range from a few weeks to as long as six months or more.

Seasonal Job Industries and Benefits

Many industries offer seasonal jobs, including retail, hospitality, construction, event staffing, tax services, customer service, and sales. Flexible hours, extra income, skill development, and networking connections are just a few of the many benefits of working a seasonal job.

Seasonal to Full-Time Employment

These approaches will improve your chance of landing full-time employment after a seasonal job:

Be on time and present. Show your coworkers and management that you are punctual, professional, and enjoy being in the workplace. Fully engage yourself in all aspects of the job, whether it is large or menial. Your actions will be remembered.

Be flexible and go the extra mile. If the company needs to adjust your hours for a short period or assign a temporary task, be flexible. This demonstrates to the employer that you appreciate the opportunity to work for them.

Develop skills. A seasonal job will not only allow you to add more work experience to your resume, it will also provide an opportunity to develop new skills or enhance existing skills.

Grow your professional network. While in your seasonal role, you may have the opportunity to meet coworkers, management, owners, or stakeholders within the company. Take advantage of the opportunity to connect with everyone in the office and on LinkedIn. This could lead to a full-time job either now or in the future.

Communicate with direct and clear intentions. Before your seasonal job ends, it’s essential to communicate your desire for a full-time position to management. Highlight your feelings about the company and why you would value working for them full-time. Explain how your role supports the overall goals of the company.

The possibility of starting as a seasonal or part-time employee and transitioning to a full-time job will require effort and hard work—but it is possible.
