VETS is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization founded by Chief Jason Lewis and his wife Karen.

They created it after returning home to Mobile, AL, to conduct cleanup and mentoring project in Jason’s old home (Happy Hill) Josephine Allen Homes and Plateau, also known as Africatown.  After the successful efforts in his community, the VETS team partnered with Keep Mobile Beautiful, Mobile, Bay Keepers, local churches, and several community organizations to do projects city wide.

The focus of the organization is to create partnerships between active-duty military and local VETS who mentor, conduct renewal projects, plant gardens, create memorials garden spaces, and other projects to benefit their communities.

Their theme for 2022, is to “Say Less and Serve”, which was adopted from the Buffalo Soldiers “Acts not Deeds.”  and to place the responsibility on the community to simply get the job done with no care for recognition and accolades.

If you want to be part of VETS or donate towards their projects, call Jason at 757-332-3555 or Karen at 850-529-9035 or write to:  [email protected]
