“Podemos Hablar” Toastmasters Club

Por Teresa Jeune

Podemos Hablar Toastmasters Club has not always been for Spanish Speakers, but when a group of potential members expressed an interest in a Spanish club, the idea for Podemos Hablar was born. Since the members were interested in improving both their English and Spanish, the members decided to form a bilingual club.  Podemos Hablar began meeting in Tallahassee in 2011 and has been meeting there since.

QUE PASA TALLY PODEMOS HABLAR

Podemos Hablar is a part of the larger organization, Toastmasters International, where the goal of every club is to provide a “supportive and positive learning” environment where members can grow in their communication and leadership skills.  These skills are then taken and applied on the job and in the community.

Our club seeks not only to help its members, but to help those in our community both in Tallahassee and abroad, as many of our members are from various Spanish speaking countries.  Our club has participated in collecting donations for a local family in need, for children in our community who do not have food to eat, and for librarians in Nicaragua as they seek to improve the literacy rate of the citizens of their country.  We see it as an honor to serve our members and our community.
