Area youth unite to serve!

By Dawn Novy and David Triana

United for a Good Cause Inc. and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast (B&GCEC) volunteers joined hands last July 30 to participate in a community project.

A total of 13 young men and women participated in this project which entailed going to the Children in Crisis Neighborhood and deep cleaning two of their apartments.

Several of the youth participating in this community project were also attendees of the “Lead, Empower, Act, Discover” Leadership Conference organized as a joint activity by both organizations.  That conference was a huge success and included several high quality speakers from throughout the region and nation.

This community project was the culmination of that conference and was scheduled to coincide with the World Youth Day activities for 2016.

The Annual Youth Leadership Conference is a unique event organized by United for a Good Cause and the plans are already underway for next April’s Conference.

Among the participants at the Children in Crisis project, there were 10 Boys and Girls Club teen club members and three other area kids ranging in age from 12 – 18 years old.  Most of the youth participants from the Boys & Girls Clubs organization are “veterans” of community projects throughout the area.  They are all highly dedicated individuals committed to helping their community and being leaders.

These unique opportunities through collaborative efforts are critical in our community, said Dawn Novy, Director of Program Development, B&GCEC.

United for a Good Cause will continue to reach out to other area and regional youth organizations to help continue to grow the Annual Youth Conference project and to participate in joint community service projects that positively affect our region while providing area youth the opportunity to serve, give and work in unity as they grow into the great leaders of our area’s future!
