HYPE Pensacola

HYPE Pensacola Posted: June 10, 2016

HYPE Pensacola, which stands for Helping Youth of Pensacola Endure, was founded by Shaun Hartsfield on November 12, 2013. Through his life experiences Shaun envisioned an organization built around uplifting the youth of Pensacola to beat the odds of becoming another statistical stereotype.  He envisioned an organization built around 3 priorities: education, community support, and athletics, and through this vision HYPE was born.

With the help of its board members: Michael Williams, Victoria Coleman, and Nichole West-Austin, HYPE has built a growing program throughout the Pensacola area. Since its creation, in 2013, HYPE has given back to the community through 4 annual programs: A turkey giveaway, Toys for tots, Easter egg hunt, and school supply give away. We are currently preparing for another successful back to school give away event, on July 9th from 10 a.m.- 2p.m. at The Fricker Center.

On the educational side, we have started a mentoring program for students in grades 6-8. The “Get in Gear for Success” program offers tutoring and courses in life preparation skills; such as, saving money, job interview etiquette, applying for college,  and resisting peer pressure, to name a few. HYPE also sponsored our first annual Senior Job Fair, which introduced graduating seniors, who are ready to enter the work force, to potential employers in the Greater Pensacola area.

In athletics we have a traveling football team for children ages 6-14, with our 10U team going all the way to Nationals in Orlando, Florida. We have also found success in youth sports with our city basketball and baseball leagues.

Through all of our programs HYPE main goal is to offer a program built on teaching children that they have options to be successful adults, and the importance of supporting our community and the city of Pensacola. We have made much progress since our start, and hope to create a mass following of people who “Believe the HYPE!”
