The Home Depot Foundation invests $4.2 million to help communities prepare for and recover from natural disasters

ATLANTA, May 10, 2022 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Ahead of this year’s hurricane season, The Home Depot Foundation has awarded more than $4.2 million to seven national nonprofit partners to support preparedness and response disasters, including food security and drinking water concerns, and long-term recovery efforts in areas affected by natural disasters.

“Each year, The Home Depot Foundation invests in disaster preparedness and response initiatives, specifically to supply hurricane relief kits and distribution centers, and ensure that our best nonprofit partners have the resources they need to help. affected communities,” said Shannon Gerber, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation. “We also understand that immediate assistance is just the beginning for so many families, which is why we’re awarding more than $1.6 million to support the long-term recovery of communities rebuilding after a natural disaster.”

With this funding, The Home Depot Foundation will:

– Invest more than $900,000 in Habitat for Humanity International’s long-term recovery program, which supports hurricane-resistant repairs and reconstruction for affected homeowners

– Fund additional long-term recovery efforts in storm-impacted communities through grants to Team Rubicon and Convoy of Hope

– Support preparedness and immediate relief efforts by awarding more than $2.6 million to the American Red Cross, ToolBank Disaster Services, and others

– Prepare more than 4,000 disaster relief kits and more than 2,000 emergency food kits with Operation Blessing that will be delivered to people in need after a natural disaster

– Help address food security and drinking water issues by supporting World Central Kitchen to distribute thousands of food rations in affected areas

In addition to the $4.2 million awarded to nonprofit partners, the team of volunteers who work at The Home Depot, will assemble nearly 7,000 disaster relief kits near Atlanta. The kits will include cleaning supplies, personal protective equipment, waste bags and more, and will be stocked at The Home Depot distribution centers in Baytown, Texas, McDonough and Savannah, Georgia. During the first 48 hours of a disaster, these kits can be distributed to more than 570 stores, in 17 states, to help communities in need.

“Whether it’s a historic hurricane like Harvey, a series of successive storms like Laura, Sally or Delta, a flood in Tennessee or a tornado in Kentucky, Operation Blessing and The Home Depot Foundation are there for Americans in need, offering immediate assistance. and long-term after disasters,” said Anthony Lloyd, general manager of Disaster Assistance for Operation Blessing.
