TCC Marketing Department Receives Exemplary Practice Award

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.– The Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) has announced that Tallahassee Community College (TCC) has been honored with 12 awards of excellence, including the highly regarded Exemplary Practice Award, in the 2019 annual marketing and communications competition among the 28 Florida colleges. The College received the AFC’s only communications and marketing Exemplary Practice Award for its TCC2WORK integrated marketing campaign and branding initiative that launched in mid-June.

TCC received more overall awards and more first-place honors than any of the schools in the Florida College System. The College received seven first-place honors, two second-place awards and two third-place awards for a variety of projects, publications and communications and marketing initiatives.

TCC2WORK is a 52-week fully integrated marketing and branding initiative campaign that’s designed to bring an awareness to TCC’s 70+ workforce-focused programs and introduce TCC as a place to learn the skills needed to go straight into a job. It was inspired by the College’s already successful TCC2FSU and TCC2FAMU programs as a third option for someone who’s ready to start a career. TCC is the largest feeder school for both universities.

“Most people are already aware of TCC’s reputation for academic excellence, a great faculty and that nearly 80 percent of the College’s graduates transfer to a four-year school,” Al Moran, Vice President for Communications and Marketing at TCC, said. “But the community also needs to be aware that the College offers more than 70 workforce-focused training programs. The College has trained an estimated 160,000 people who are now employed in the region.”

As one of the most ambitious campaigns in TCC history, the College’s workforce programs are promoted individually on a weekly schedule that highlights a different program every single week. To understand the scope of the project, each week contains its own integrated marketing campaign. Each campaign includes new materials for every job, using channels such as print and digital advertising, earned media, television, radio, billboards and promo materials; these are all designed to drive traffic back to TCC’s newly created TCC2WORK.COM landing page, allowing the user to obtain seamless information in the job of their choice.

Baselines were taken at launch in order to measure results in 2020.

The TCC2WORK initiative also addresses Gov. Ron Desantis’ executive order that urges Florida to increase its rank in the nation for its workforce and technical training programs by 2030.

“The success of the branding initiative and individual job-training program awareness campaign can be linked directly to TCC’s ‘best-of-the-best’ marketing team and the messaging effectiveness and measured impact of TCC’s project partners,” Moran said.

The exemplary practice presentation will be conducted by members of the Communications and Marketing team including Travis Jordan, Selina Starling and Ayanna Young. They will be receiving other recognition and awards during the AFC’s 70th annual meeting and conference in Innisbrook, Fla. on November 6-8.
