Blue Room Project – Health in Motion

Health in Motion is a project created by Dr. David Fermín’s initiative in Merida, Venezuela in 2009. It starts with a weekly activity outdoors so people of different ages can gather to exercise under his guidance, as a specialized doctor with a wide professional experience in the world of sports. The object of this project is to provide health to city inhabitants to keep in shape and enjoy a healthy life by using a real alternative in order to combat the sedentary life of present society,

This project presents the need to educate attending people as “Athletes for life” without any discrimination, teaching them to incorporate a series of low or medium intensity exercises, apt for everyone. When doing the outdoors exercise session under medical supervision, in a conscious and orderly fashion, and in contact with nature, there are fewer risks related to posture habits, and—when strengthening muscles and improving their flexibility—soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments) lesions are prevented.

Dr. David Fermín, MD, strongly believes that developing outdoor physical activities in harmony with nature provides an individual with an additional balance since it means to return to the origins and to look for our life essence by doing mild exercises that improve health, which fosters the integral development of a person. This nine-year study in a city focuses on an integral philosophy of life—that looks at a human being as a unique entity and not a division of mind and body—thus perfecting human development and offering the community a better quality of life.

Thus, and at a health level, it is evident that this project promotes awareness as to the benefits of physical activity in the development of daily life. Additionally, Health in Motion incorporates cultural activities such as music, art, yoga, and dancing in order to create a comprehensive fusion that will encourage the whole community to move. Finally, this project aims to reinforce the idea that physical exercising is a form of medication that—besides improving the physical condition of individuals—will prevent future injuries and ailments.

Right now in Tallahassee, Florida, Health in Motion is practiced to promote exercising as medicine using physical activities. In so doing, it contributes to community improvement through education and outdoor activities.
