Tommy’s New Orleans Original Snoballs – A Navarre Landmark
By David Triana
If you have ever passed the corner of Hwy 98 and the Navarre Bridge and looked towards the water side, I am sure you have seen Tommy’s Snoballs. There is no way to miss their colorful stand, especially because you will likely see dozens of people at a time lining up to buy their favorite and many sitting down under the umbrellas on the sandy front of the main stand. They have more than 175 delicious flavors they offer!
Tommy’s has been a Navarre landmark since it started in 1998 and is owned by Tommy and Joyce Cox. Amazingly, the stand has survived the major hurricanes of 2005 and 2006! They offer something for everyone and it is pretty likely they will have your favorite flavor or mix of flavors available.
All their flavors come from New Orleans and their machines are original block shavers. As they like to say, “We do Snoballs right!!…Who dat say they gonna beat Tommy’s Snoballs?”
If you don’t want to sit on the front side, Tommy’s has a large tented area in the back area overlooking the beautiful sound and the Navarre Beach area. My son and I love going there because Tommy and his crew, mostly composed of courteous and smiling young high school and college students, offer fast and always friendly service. Make sure you place a tip in their “For College Tuition Jar!”
It is also a great place to just hang out and meet both tourists and locals. According to Tommy, many of his customers are tourists who have been coming to the area for many, many years and they always come back to Tommy’s several times during their stays in our Emerald Coast.
So, grab your better half, your girlfriend/boyfriend, your friends, grandparents, and the dog and head down to the corner of Hwy 98 (eastbound lane) and the Navarre Bridge road, and enjoy Navarre’s sweetest non-secret…Tommy’s Snoballs!
Hours of Operation are Monday – Saturday from 10am – 10pm and Sunday from 10am – 10pm.
