There is this place called the Animal Shelter…And when they touch your heart.
By Carolina Asmus-Cruz
Every city has its own untold stories. Sadness, happiness, and memories; in each city there are beings that do not get enough sunlight, those beings that do not have a voice end up for different reasons in the same place, the animal shelter. For many a simple building filled with whines and barks sometimes hard to interpret. For them this is their home. Behind every look there are many stories that humans do not know, behind every gesture fear or indifference there is an untold reason. All of these defenseless souls share the same hope, to find that human, that forever home. Not all of them get to attain this dream. There is always one more day, the sun will always come out again and that might be the day that you will discover a pure, infinite, free of prejudice friendship. The day that I decided to include that being in my life is when my life changed.
I am an animal lover, especially of dogs and with them I have learned that life should be lived each day to the max, from them I get the best greeting every time I come home even if my absence was just for a few short minutes. Their unconditional love, warm stares, and the way they follow me everywhere I go, is why I also love dogs that do not belong to anyone. The dogs that are in the animal shelter have gotten there for different reasons and without knowing what the future has in store for them.
The sun comes out every day, but not every day do they get out of their kennels. The animal shelter staff work hard to save the lives of all the animals that are there, trying to make these animal’s stay shorter, but sadly not all of them have the same luck to find a loving forever home. Many are abandoned by their families because they can not keep them anymore; or do not want to keep them anymore; and some cases they were simply born in the wrong hands.
Despite everything included the inevitable sadness in the animal sh elter, there will always be human beings offering their time to help save these animals and to improve their lives in the shelter.
If you want to help, there are many ways to do it: Adopt, foster, volunteer, donate money, food, or just by sharing the stories of those dogs that are looking for a home.
