MIAMI /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Univision Communications Inc. announced that it has launched PrendeTV, the first and only streaming service that offers channels and video on demand in the United States created specifically for Hispanic audiences in the country, with unparalleled, premium and Spanish-language content of various genres and 100% free.

PrendeTV offers the most extensive selection of the most popular Spanish-language programming to viewers in the United States, which stands out for its 40 streaming channels and 10,000 hours of video on demand. PrendeTV will continue to expand its offerings in movies, hit drama series, realities, children’s programs, popular soap operas and sports programming. Audiences in the United States can now access a set of specially selected channels and video on demand from Univision and Televisa’s content libraries, which are not found on any other streaming service. In addition, PrendeTV will offer content from leading Spanish-language partners around the world including Banijay, Blue Ant Media, Calinos, Caracol, Cisneros, Filmrise, Globo, Nelvana, RCN and others. And in a few weeks, PrendeTV will add movies from leading Hollywood studios, including Disney, Lionsgate and MGM.

The launch follows the recent acquisition of VIX, the largest Spanish-language, ad-supported video-on-demand service for Latin American and Hispanic audiences in the United States. When combined with PrendeTV, Univision’s ad-supported streaming products offer more than 30,000 hours of content with an unparalleled variety of Spanish-language programming.

“The launch of PrendeTV used a new era of transformation at Univision and we expanded our current dominant position in broadcasting to U.S. Hispanics to the advertising-backed video-on-demand streaming market and our leadership as the largest Spanish-language content and media company in the United States.” , said Pierluigi Gazzolo, President and CEO of Univision’s Transformation. “In addition to our exclusive programming from Univision and Televisa, we have brought together the best content providers, brands and distribution partners to create an unparalleled service for U.S. Hispanics in a way that only Univision can do.”

PrendeTV is offered free to customers on Amazon Fire TV, Apple (iOs and tvOS), Google (Android phones and TV devices) and online devices in prende.tv. The app will be available on Roku’s platform in the coming weeks.

PrendeTV is aimed at an increasingly large audience of Hispanics in the United States, so far underserved by internet video services with limited Spanish-language content, quality and distribution. Recent studies indicate that 74% of Hispanics who speak mostly Spanish and 49% of bilingual Hispanics want more content in Spanish, and half of Hispanic millennials consider Spanish content to be more relevant than English content.

Exclusive set of channels of various genres and blockbuster programming selected by the leading Hispanic content and media company, Univision

PrendeTV is the exclusive destination for streaming varied programming from univision and televisa’s content video libraries. PrendeTV offers viewers more than 40 channels and 10,000 hours of video on demand in Spanish, and additional programming and channels will be added frequently.

Blockbuster movie channels launching in the coming weeks include “Hollywood Cinema,” “VIP Cinema,” “Extreme Cinema,” “Extreme Cinema 2” and “Boom Cinema” with action-intensive films like “Knight &Day,” “Walking Tall” and “Gone in 60 Seconds.”

Partner Brands Target U.S. Hispanic Audiences

PrendeTV will debut with a set of international brands and leading advertisers in its categories, including Chase, Clorox, Coca-Cola, Dunkin’, McDonald’s, Toyota, Universal Pictures, Verizon and Walmart.

The first-class partner set for the launch highlights the value PrendeTV offers to marketers interested in more effectively engaging fast-growing, untapped U.S. Hispanic audiences in Spanish. Hispanics have superior streaming consumption and represent 19% of the total U.S. population with 63 million people and a GDP (gross domestic product) of $2.1 trillion. Launch partners will form the PrendeTV Premier Club, which will enable brands to collaborate and have access to streaming video and consumer insights, as well as contribute to advertising innovations on PrendeTV’s growing platform.
