New USCIS Office in Montgomery
By Elizabeth Ricci
USCIS opened a field office in Montgomery, Alabama last June. The new office oversees the Florida Panhandle and the entire state of Alabama. The officers working there are either new to USCIS or to their positions. The office is currently backlogged as a result of its caseload and new personnel. Customers are encouraged to be patient.
The new office’s policy is to not allow customers in more than 15 minutes before their appointment. In addition, they have extremely limited Infopass availability. Therefore, if you need to ask a question, customers are encouraged to either call you or USCIS at 800-375-5283, attempt and Infopass appointment online at USCIS.gov or arrive at 8:30 (Central) in the morning at the sub office and attempt a same day appointment. Be warned, however, that those who answer the Customer Service hotline are not trained in the intricacies of Immigration law and their instructions should not be considered legal advice.
The new Field Office is located at 3381 Atlanta Highway in Montgomery. Its hours are 8:30 – 4:30 Central. The Director’s name is Nicolas Bartell.
According to the Migration Policy Institute, the foreign-born population of the Yellowhammer state has doubled over the last 17 years. About half of the state’s immigrant population is Latino.
With the opening of this new office, customers will no longer have to travel as far as Atlanta for Infopasses, biometrics appointments, interviews, or naturalization ceremonies.
