The new year is just around the corner, and with it comes newly realized optimism and strong goal-oriented determination. But to ensure your team is successful in the new year, it’s imperative to focus on the right things that will have positive impacts on your workplace objectives. Leaders – Check out these four things to do today to ensure a successful new year!

Create Realistic Goals

When creating plans for the new year, one of the best things you can do is create ambitious, but realistic goals. According to a study from the University of Scranton, 92% of people fail to achieve their goals for the new year. That doesn’t create good odds for success. However, there’s a simple way to beat the odds: follow the S.M.A.R.T. goal-making plan. Make sure your goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-sensitive.

Anticipate Needs and Variables

Regardless of how well you plan, situations will occur that you haven’t prepared for. From turnover issues to a boost in production needs to market changes, there are obstacles that can slow your momentum in the new year. Get ahead of them by reviewing previous years’ trends and putting contingency plans in place now to anticipate potential needs and variables.

Learn New Skills

One thing to focus on in 2022 is professional development. If you aren’t learning, you’re digressing, so make it a point to allow for cross-training in your organization, as well as your own new skills development. According to a Lorman study, 87% of millennials believe learning and development in the workplace is important. Moreover, 70% of employees would be willing to leave their current position for a company offering these opportunities. Get ahead of the curve and offer training to your team.

Plan for Sick Leave

If we learned anything these past two years, it is that health concerns in the office can derail any progress. And with continued cases of COVID-19 and other illnesses affecting communities, some employees will be forced to take sick leave to keep offices safe. One way you can plan for this is by using a staffing firm to ensure you’re never out of qualified workers.
