KATIA GARZA INTERVIEW:

CONEXION (C)At what age did you “know” that you wanted to be a Ballet Dancer and what inspired you?

KATIA (K):  I was maybe 11 years old.  But I was not really into dancing. I was more into creating. But then I had the chance to become a dancer and made my life so much better.

(C):  Was there a particular role that you “dreamt about doing” when you decided to become a dancer? Has that dream been fulfilled?

(K):  Yes, it was to dance the role of Kitri in Don Quixote. I’ve had the privilege of performing in that role many times.

(C):  Do you have a message for kids out there dreaming about becoming a dancer and/or choreographer like you?

(K):  That is never too soon to decide if this is your future and what you will do forever. But if you really love to do something…never stop! Work hard for your dreams because they really do come true.

(C):  Have you been to our Emerald Coast area before?  If yes, when was that and for which performance?

(K):  I’ve been coming to the Fort Walton/Destin area since 2004. I have had the chance to perform and choreograph before as well as teach in summer programs at the Northwest Florida Ballet. I feel at home. I love the people and it is a great area to relax and enjoy…especially in the summer. It feels like home and I love it.

(C):  How would you describe this particular Peter Pan you are bringing to our area?

(K):  I am excited because it has been a dream to bring this magical ballet to life for many years and it’s finally happening. The dancing, the extraordinary scenery and the team of creative collaborators has been truly amazing to work with.

(C):  After Peter Pan, what is your next project?

(K):  I am presenting A Midsummer Night’s dream with Mobile Ballet and I will then perform Otón a Ballet Gala on Puebla Mexico. I cannot wait to be back in my country to dance there.

(C):  Any final words for our Emerald Coast Community?

(K):  Please come and enjoy this show. We are putting a lot of work, time and energy into this production. I am sure you will enjoy it and you will be back to see it twice.
