Gloria Matos, Gadsden County teacher from Greensboro Elementary was recognized by Governor Rick Scott and First Lady Ann Scott during the 2017 Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration in Tallahassee, FL.
Mrs. Gloria Matos received recognition as the Excellence in Education Award winner for the Elementary School Category. The contest is opened each year through the Governor’s office in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Students and educators throughout the state participated in the Hispanic Heritage Month contest with the theme of “A Recognition of the Role of Hispanic-Americans in Shaping Florida Today”.
Mrs. Matos was nominated by her Gadsden County peers who explained why they thought she should receive the award, and how she had made an impact in their lives, as well as in her students’ lives, school, and community. She was recognized as one of the many influential Hispanic Floridians who selflessly contribute to the educational and economic health of her community in Greensboro and throughout Gadsden County. She has also worked with our organization, PAEC, during the summer, teaching our migrant students and English Language Learners. Mrs. Matos was surprised by Superintendent Roger Milton, along with the School Board of Gadsden County, who were extremely proud of Mrs. Matos’ recognition.
Mrs. Matos is another example of how our Hispanic community is making an impact on future generations! Mrs. Matos is one more example of Hispanics making a difference!
