ARLINGTON, Va., September 21, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The National Council for Older Adults (NCOA), a respected nationally run organization that works to get everyone to age well, has launched BuscaBeneficios.org,a free and confidential online tool, in Spanish, that connects Latinx seniors with billions of dollars in federal, state, local and private benefits to pay for daily expenses. The culturally competent search engine is based on NCOA’s well-known BenefitsCheckUp®, which has helped millions of older adults find billions of dollars in benefits to pay for food, medicine, utilities and more.
“Everyone deserves the resources to age with dignity and economic security,” said NCOA President and CEO Ramsey Alwin. “BuscaBeneficios.org is part of the NCOA’s commitment to the idea of ageing well for everyone, especially Hispanic older adults facing disproportionate risks of poverty. We are proud to launch this site during Hispanic Heritage Month, as another way to empower older adults with culturally competent and reliable information.”
As part of its reach to Hispanic/Latino older adults, the NCOA has also launched Check Against Falls,an online assessment tool in Spanish that allows older adults to assess their risk of falling, one of the greatest health risks as people age. Users receive a personalized report with culturally competent resources for the prevention of falls in Spanish, including a video, tips and brochures.
“The NCOA is creating more Spanish content and formalizing critical connections with Hispanic/Latino organizations,” said Vivian Nava-Schellinger, Director of Community Associations and Network Activation at NCOA. “Our partnerships with the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Latinos for A Secure Retirement, San Ysidro Health, Borderland Rainbow Center, and the senior centers that serve Latinx seniors allow us to continue to train our grandparents, grandmothers and family to age well.”
The NCOA’s Spanish-language website also includes content about the COVID-19 pandemic, scams and more. For more information, visit http://www.ncoa.org/Espanol.
