”Madre hay una sola y no hay ni habrá jamás ser que se le compare en bondad, sacrificio y dulzura sobre la faz de la tierra”

To be a mom is not a profession, it’s not something you can be taught, it is a blessing the nature gives women that offers them the capacity and the ability to be a mother, virtue that allows them to perpetuate humanity and makes them the most lovable human being on earth.

Mother’s Day is a festivity in honor of all the mothers and is celebrated in different dates in each country.

On May 10th, it is celebrated in Saudi Arabia, El Salvador, Guatemala, India, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Singapore, and Uruguay.

The first celebrations of Mother’s Day started in the ancient Greece, where they used to honor Rea, the mother of all the Gods Zeus, Poseidon and Hades.

Catholics transformed this celebration to honor the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus.  Within the Catholic Church, December 8th is the festivity of Immaculate Conception, which is also the day that Panama adopted to celebrate Mother’s day.

In England, around XVII century, a similar festivity related with the Virgin Mary took place, it was named Mother’s Sunday. The children used to go to mass and come back to their homes with presents for their mothers, also, for a lot of people who worked for wealthy communities and didn’t have the opportunity to be at home, that Sunday was a day off to go see their families.

In Mexico, mother’s day started 90 years ago, when the journalist Rafael Aducin Bedolla, founder of the newspaper EXCELSIOR, made an invitation on April 13, 1922 for readers to suggest a day to recognize mothers, they decided that may 10th of every year would be the day Mexicans would do so.

Mothers deserve to be recognized on their special day and treated like Queens, right? You can make this day wonderful, check out these ideas that can help you celebrate her and fill her with love.

  1. Queen for a day: Let this be a day mom shouldn’t work in boring and tiring chores. This is the day you can give her the “Gift of Time”, and clean the house, fill up her gas tank. Think about all the little things she would love.
  2. Meals in her honor: If you celebrate in a restaurant to get out of the routine, you can take her to an exclusive place for breakfast, lunch or dinner, don’t forget to make reservations. You don’t want that place to be overbooked and especially in such special days, when everybody goes to restaurants. Try to take her where they serve her favorite meal!
  3. Family portraits: These can be made with your own digital camera or you can hire a professional photographer, mom will really like this gesture to remember this day forever, then give her a pretty picture frame.
  4. Family picnic: This is another way to share family time, you can go out and plan a getaway trip to the park. Make sure is a calm place with beautiful views, take care of the food.
  5. Remembering Memories: What was your mom’s favorite hobby? It could be bowling, mini golf ping-pong, or volleyball.  Mom deserves to go and enjoy herself and have fun! Be original.  You can make this successful and fun with everybody!
  6. Her favorite movie: If your mom loves to go to the movies, then take her to watch the movie she has been talking about. Obviously, work with her schedule and spoil her with popcorn, soda, chips and desserts, a little bit of everything! She will love to go to the movies and it’s a great place to spend the day.
  7. For an artistic mom: If she likes art, take her to a museum, make sure you check the schedule. You can enjoy an exposition, and coffee, if this fits your mom’s personality.
  8. A shopping day: ¿Who doesn’t like to go shopping? This is your opportunity to spoil her! Go to the mall and spend hours there. Buy her snacks and a great gift, let her pick.
