Supercharge Your Thinking

By Peggy Brockman

If you missed the recent workshop “Supercharge Your Thinking” with Author, Speaker and Business Coach, Peggy Brockman…You truly missed out on some great learning and fun!  The evening was sponsored by Conexión Media Group in honor of Women’s History Month.  It started with a very inspirational message of hope from speaker Whitney Mobley.  She shared her story of surviving a tragic car accident that left her in a coma for three months with a traumatic brain injury and a body broken into dozens of pieces.  She took us through her journey of learning to walk again, relearning basic everyday functions and then using her faith in God and her sheer determination to thrive in spite of the enormous challenges she faced.  A true reminder we can do ANYTHING if we change our thinking!

Some key take-aways from the workshop included why changing your thinking is important, the power of words and tips on thinking through an idea.  We discussed the power of using the right tools like the “BreakThrough: Create Your Best Year EVER! 52 Week Workbook and Planner” recently published by Peggy to stay accountable to your goals and commitments.

According to Benjamin Disraeli, you should “Nurture your thoughts, for you will never go higher than your thoughts.”  We discussed the following concepts from John Maxwell’s book “Jumpstart Your Thinking”:  When you change your THINKING, you change your BELIEFS, which change your EXPECTATIONS and changing your expectations changes your ATTITUDE.  Changing your ATTITUDE changes your BEHAVIOR and that changes everything!  Changing your BEHAVIOR changes your PERFORMANCE and that changes your LIFE!!

Words have power and it’s important we OWN OUR COMMENTS and quit projecting on others! An example of this would be me making a comment about myself or my thoughts and using the word YOU instead of I.  “When YOU make a mistake YOU usually recognize it.”  When I should have said “When I make a mistake, I usually recognize it” because I was really talking about myself – just deflecting it on to YOU.

Eliminate the absolutes in your vocabulary like “ALWAYS” and “NEVER”.  You don’t ALWAYS screw things up….sometimes you get it right.  The word BUT used after anything either negates or marginalizes whatever you said before it. WE REJECT THINGS OTHER PEOPLE SAY BY USING “BUT”…..”But” I didn’t mean it that way”…. Use the word AND instead.  And lastly, define your present condition as a state of being. INSTEAD OF:  I CAN’T BECAUSE….(which defines that present state as permanent), USE:  UP UNTIL NOW…. Then say your truth.  This defines it as a past state you’re moving away from.  SPEAK LIFE TO YOUR FUTURE STATE.  “UP UNTIL NOW, I have lacked the resources AND (not BUT) NOW I AM gaining new tools to be able to supercharge my thinking.” I AM are very powerful words and should be used in front of all your affirmations.

Those are just a few of the pearls of wisdom from the two-hour workshop.  We had wonderful food provided by M & J Personal/Private Chefs, desserts by La Chama Venez LLC, and wine provided by Emerald Coast Financial Services.  Make sure you make it to the next workshop so you don’t miss out on all the tips, tools and inspiration for success!
