MathAlive! is coming to the Emerald Coast Science Center!

Presented by Raytheon, the entertaining and interactive traveling exhibit opens August 5 at the Emerald Coast Science Center in Fort Walton Beach. The 3000-square-foot MathAlive! exhibit uses immersive and innovative technologies to create fun experiences illustrating how math is an important part of our daily life. These mechanical and multimedia interactive activities allow visitors to use math as a tool to compete, design, build and play.

MathAlive! is designed to inspire, to spark the imagination, to reveal not only math at work, but the endless possibilities of math. The exhibition brings to life the real math behind what we love most – video games, sports, dancing, design, music, engineering, and more – in highly immersive and interactive experiences.

MathAlive! exhibits allow patrons to ride in a live-action snowboard race, design and try out the ultimate skateboard, build and test their own super tall skyscraper and capture their image in a 360 freeze-motion video. Patrons can experience real math at work in sports, nature, engineering, music, dancing, movie-making and more.

Guests can also explore math patterns that occur in nature; test their skills on a mountain bike, using graphs to measure their performance; or test their engineering skills as they master-plan a more sustainable infrastructure for a city.

Along the way they’ll meet and hear professionals, visionaries and inspiring personalities talk about math in their work across a range of different career fields.

MathAlive! is on a national military tour and is stopping in Fort Walton Beach, home to Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field. Thanks to Raytheon, all active duty military families will receive free admission to MathAlive!

MathAlive! will be at the Emerald Coast Science Center until September 10 and is open to the public Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit appeals to visitors of all ages and levels of math ability, with particular relevance to students in grades 3-8. All exhibits feature both English and Spanish descriptions and instructions for our patrons.
