On Saturday, April 15, thousands of attendees gathered at the Bloxham and Lewis Parks located in the Downtown Chain of Parks to view more than 100 artists during the LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival Easter weekend.

His fifth time at the LeMoyne Art Festival Columbian painter, Gustavo Castillo showcased reminiscent paintings of his childhood and culture from his hometown, Columbia.

“From life in the streets, the lady selling fruit, and the market I visited many times with my mother, these paintings bring back memories I thought I’ve never had,” said Castillo. “I thought I was not paying attention to these memories. Later on, I discovered these memories through a different eye and technique.”

His collection consists of colorful works of fruits, pictures by the sea, painted with watercolors and acrylic paints.

“My work is about the good experiences in my childhood,” said the former commercial pilot. “When I first came to Tallahassee, LeMoyne and the community embraced me and I’ve never forgotten that.”

Castillo hopes that collectors of his work see progress from his paintings from when he began to know.
