KATIA GARZA – Choreographer – Peter Pan

Born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, Katia began her training in Monterrey Mexico’s Escuela Superior de Música y Danza graduating in 1995.  That same year she joined Ballet de Monterrey and after six months became soloist and a year later principal dancer.

Since 2013, she has traveled the word as a freelance dancer and choreographer.  Katia’s career is chronicled in the documentary film “Katia Garza My Life in Dance” and is available at katiagarnzamovie.com

Katia was awarded a silver medal in the 1999 International Ballet Competition in Peru, which was the ONLY medal awarded during the competition that year. Casa de Mexico and the Mexican Consulate in Orlando, honored her for her contributions to the community and the arts in the city in 2004 and 2009.  She was also recognized with the Outstanding Teacher Award at the Youth American Grand Prix in Atlanta in 2016.

Her repertoire as a principal character includes Don Quixote, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and the Nutcracker among others.

She has choreographed for the Ballet of Monterrey, Tallahassee Ballet, and the Franceschi Arts Academy of Puerto Rico among others.
